How to Activate Your ControlUp License

This article explains how to activate the ControlUp license that you just purchased. It covers the activation process for both types of ControlUp deployment, Hybrid Cloud and On-Premises.

After your purchase is complete, you will receive an email from your ControlUp sales representative that includes your license type, activation code, transaction ID, etc.

The activation code is in the form of a UUID constructed from 36 characters (including the hyphens), for example: 4a7b1234-a981-2b5a-a311-9995581dff28.

Activate License for Hybrid Cloud

  1. Log into your ControlUp Real-Time Console. In the ribbon pane, select Help > About and select Licensing. The main licensing page opens.

  2. Click Activate License in the right-top corner.

  3. Enter the activation code that you received and click Activate Online.

Your license is now activated. When going back to the main licensing page, you should see all the details updated.

Activate License for On-Premises

After your COP license purchase, you receive a new ControlUp On-Premises license mail which includes details about your purchase and most importantly the license activation link.

Perform the following steps to generate and apply your new license key:

  1. Log into the COP server.

  2. Go to Programs and Features > ControlUp Server and click Change. image.png

  3. Click Apply License.

  4. Click the Request a license with the following details checkbox. Leave the fields as they are. Click Continue.

  5. A notification appears to inform you to save the license request. Click OK to proceed with the license request.

  6. Save the XML request file on the COP server.

  7. In the email you received for activating your license, you can find an activation link. Click this link to enter the license activation portal.

  8. In the activation portal, browse the ControlUp Server License Request.xml and click Submit. This creates a PrivateCloudLicenseFile.xml that you need to activate on the COP server. Follow the instructions in the Activate the New Licenese section.

Activate the New License

If you followed the steps above, the license file is now activated and you can deploy the file on your COP server.

To deploy the new license:

  1. On the COP server, go to Programs and Features > ControlUp Server and click Change.
  2. Click Apply License > Browse for an existing license file

  3. In the Select a License File wizard, open the PrivateCloudLicenseFile.xml and click Apply.

  4. Wait until the license has been applied. Once complete, the Update Successfully notification is displayed and your license is activated.

Troubleshooting

As illustrated above, you need to click Apply License in the settings menu to start activating your on-premises license. Use the following workaround if the settings menu closes after clicking the Apply License button.

  1. Log into the COP server.
  2. Open the Control Panel > Programs and Features.
  3. Select ControlUp Server > Uninstall. Important: Do not continue with the uninstallation process.
  4. Once the wizard is launched, you will be asked to confirm the uninstallation. Click No.
  5. Now, you can reapply the license as described in the Activate Your On-Premises License section above.
