    Article Summary

Perform actions on your devices from either the Device details dashboard, or the drilldown page for a single device. For more information about the Device details dashboard, including how to access it, click here.

    You can:

    • Run commands using a device's command line. You can run commands either as SYSTEM or as the logged-in user on the device.
    • Run custom scripts that you have created or imported.
    • Initiate remote assistance on a device.
    • Perform power management actions.

To learn how to create custom scripts, see Edge DX Scripting Guide.
To learn more about remote assistance, see Remote Assistance.

    Permissions

    • Permissions for performing actions are controlled under the Device Actions and Remote Assistance permission categories in your Roles settings.
    • Custom actions (scripts that you have created or imported) use permission groups. You can run a custom script on a device only if you have permission to run scripts from the script's group. For example, if a script is in Group 1, then you must have the permission Run Group 1 Scripts to run the script on a device. When performing actions, only the scripts you have permission to run are displayed. Learn more about configuring scripts.
    • If you access Edge DX from app.controlup.com, you can limit a user's permission to perform actions only to specific devices by targeting device groups and tags. For example, you can give a user permission to perform actions only on devices in the "HR" device group. Learn more about configuring roles in app.controlup.com and adding devices to device groups.

Perform Actions on a Single Device

To perform an action on a single device:

    1. Go to the Device details dashboard and click the actions icon next to an active device name. Note that online devices have a play button next to their name that you can click to quickly perform an action on the device.

    2. Use the actions icons at the top of the grid to perform an action on your selected device.

    3. Depending on the action you selected, you might have to enter additional options or confirm the action before it runs on the device.

You can also perform actions on a device from the device drilldown page.

    Perform Actions on Multiple Devices

To perform an action on multiple devices,

    1. Go to the Device details dashboard and select all the devices you want to perform an action on using the checkboxes next to their name.

    2. Use the action icons at the top of the grid to perform an action on all of the selected devices.

Note that you can't perform power management actions on multiple devices. You also can't run commands or custom actions if your selection includes devices with different operating systems.

Perform Actions on a Group of Devices

To perform an action on a group of devices:

    1. Go to the Devices page.

    2. Filter the list of devices so that only the devices you want to perform an action on are displayed in the list. For details on all the ways you can filter devices, visit Filter the Device List.

    3. Select all devices that match your filters using the checkbox at the top of the grid.

      You can either:

      1. Select rows on this page to select all devices that match your filter criteria on the current page of devices. Pagination controls are at the bottom of the devices list.
      2. Select all filtered rows to select all devices that match your filter criteria on all pages of devices.
    4. Use the actions icon at the top of the grid to perform an action on all of the selected devices.
