Processes View & Actions

Prev Next

The Processes view is an aggregated view of all Windows processes running on all of your managed machines. When unfiltered, this view acts like a Task Manager connected to your entire ControlUp organization, allowing you to compare and analyze the state of all processes, across all machines. This view’s data table is densely populated, potentially including hundreds of thousands of records.

Processes Actions

These actions are available when selecting a process or multiple processes. The actions can be invoked using either the Ribbon Bar “Actions” button, the context menu (right-click), or the Actions Panel.

RDP to Machine

Switches the display to the Remote Desktops pane and establishes a Remote Desktop session on the machine on which the selected process is hosted.

Remote Desktop Services > Send Message

This action sends a standard “net send”-style message to the user session in which the selected process is executed.

Get Session Screenshot

This action allows you to get a quick screenshot of current activity inside the session in which the selected process is executed. The selected session has to be active and unlocked for this operation to complete successfully. This operation can be performed in the following modes:

  1. User approval  – the end user(s) will be presented with a warning message asking for approval of the administrator’s attempt to receive a screenshot of the user’s current activity.

  2. User notification  – the end user(s) will be presented with a warning message stating that the administrator has requested to receive a screenshot of the user’s current activity. No user approval is needed.

  3. No notification  – the end user(s) will not be notified of the action.

Note

Please respect the regulations effective in your region and/or organization in regard to the users’ privacy. From a privacy standpoint, it is general practice to request the users’ permission before obtaining a screenshot of their activity. If your user environment involves sensitive or classified activity, it is recommended that you configure the screenshot restriction, as explained below.

End Process

Gracefully terminates the selected process, after waiting for a configured timeout period (default is 60 seconds).

Kill Process

Forcefully terminates the selected process, without waiting for response.

PSKill Process

Forcefully terminates the selected process using the SysInternals PSKill utility, without waiting for response.

Set Process Priority

Changes the base priority for the selected process.

Script-based Actions

Invokes any Script-based Actions downloaded or created for use in your organization. For more details, please refer to the Script-based Actions chapter .

Go to > Machine

Switches to the Machines view and selects the machine on which the selected process is executed.

Go to > Session

Switches to the Sessions View and selects the user session in which the selected process is executed.
