Configure a Deployment

Prev Next
Beta

This feature is in beta. Contact your ControlUp representative for more information.

A deployment defines which ControlUp products are installed on certain group of devices, and how product updates are handled.

Create a deployment policy

Go to Agents > Deployments > Create deployment. The wizard has three steps.

Step 1 - Targeting

Enter a name and optional description for the deployment, then define a set of device conditions.

Devices that meet these conditions will receive the modules you configure in step 2.

Available targeting options

  • Computed tags (these are tags that are dynamically assigned to your devices based on the current data within a specific Registry value. Learn how to set up and apply computed tags.
  • Device group (this can be set during Agent ONE installation)
  • ControlUp for Desktops Tags
  • Active directory sites
  • Hardware manufacturer
  • Hardware model
  • Location city
  • Location country
  • Operation system
  • Operating system (release)

Step 2 - Modules

In this step, you configure which ControlUp modules (products) Agent ONE installs on devices that match the deployment's conditions. You can either:

  • Configure manually — Select your own products, versions, and update settings to build a fully customized deployment.
  • Use template — ControlUp pre-configures the products, versions, and update settings for you to meet common use-cases.
ControlUp for VDI

Agent ONE can deploy only ControlUp for VDI Agents. Agent ONE can't deploy VDI Monitors.

Module update settings

  • Release Delay - Specify a waiting period of up to 60 days after a new version is released before Agent ONE installs it on devices. This gives you time to validate new releases before they reach your production environment. This option is relevant only if you have selected "Latest" as the product version.
  • Apply updates outside of business hours - Specify the days and time window of your business hours. Agent ONE applies updates only outside of the specified times, based on each device's local time zone. This applies both when deploying the latest version automatically, and when you manually edit a deployment to move devices to a newer specific version.

Step 3 - Review and save

Review your settings before saving the deployment.

Set deployment priority

A device can receive only one deployment. In case a device matches the conditions for multiple deployments, the deployment with the highest priority (lowest number) wins. On the Deployments table, each deployment is listed in the priority order, with the highest priority deployments appearing at the top of the list.

To change a deployment's priority, click and drag the three-lines icon in the Priority column and move the deployment to a new location in the list. Be careful when you do this because changing deployment priority can change which products get installed on a device.

Enable and disable deployments

In the Deployments table, you can click the three-dots menu to enable or disable your deployments. When disabled, the deployment no longer applies and devices will switch to the next highest priority matching deployment.
