This article explains the process for deploying Agent ONE onto devices that already have ControlUp Agents and products installed.
Before you begin
- 2.17.7 is the lowest supported version of ControlUp for Desktops: If you are running a lower version, be prepared to upgrade when you deploy ControlUp for Desktops using Agent ONE.
- Existing Agents and components are automatically removed when replaced: For example, if you deploy ControlUp for Desktops and ControlUp for Compliance on a device through Agent ONE, then any previously existing Desktops and Compliance Agents are automatically removed from the device within 20 minutes.
Currently, when you install Agent ONE, all existing ControlUp Agents are uninstalled even if they are not replaced through Agent ONE. This means that when you install Agent ONE and your device receives the default deployment (which does not contain any products), your device will lose connection to your tenant until you re-deploy ControlUp modules through Agent ONE.
To address this and minimize device downtime, before you install Agent ONE you can preconfigure a deployment that includes your selected modules and give it a higher priority, or you can edit the default deployment to include those modules.
Do I have to migrate?
Yes. Agent ONE will become the only way to deploy ControlUp products and features in the near future. The next major version of ControlUp for Desktops after 2.18 will be available only through Agent ONE. It will not be delivered through the Agent Manager.
Existing installs will remain supported in line with our end-of-support policies. We recommend moving to Agent ONE as soon as possible to avoid missing out on our latest innovations. You can start with a small group of devices to validate the process before rolling out to your full environment.
There is currently no migration deadline date. When one is finalized, we will communicate through Customer Success outreach, in-product messages, and more.
What carries over automatically
ControlUp for Desktops Tags and Groups:
Devices keep their existing ControlUp for Desktops tags and groups. You can continue using these for targeting product deployments in Agent ONE.
ControlUp for Desktops Extended and Custom settings:
Your ControlUp for Desktops Extended and Custom settings stay where they are and continue to apply to your devices after migration. No action is needed. We are working on bringing these settings into the Agent ONE management experience in a future update.
What you need to reconfigure for Agent ONE
Version control settings
Your existing ControlUp for Desktops and ControlUp for Applications version control settings are not automatically migrated to Agent ONE. You can recreate your version control rules when you configure your Agent ONE deployments.
How to migrate
Follow the Agent ONE getting started guide to install Agent ONE on your devices.
