Manage Tenant Manager Subscription

The Tenant Manager integrates with the overall ControlUp subscription model, but unlike standard subscriptions, its details are not displayed on the main Subscription page. Instead, license quotas for each product are managed and enforced at the Account and Organization levels via Tenant Manager.

View subscription information

From the Subscription page, you can view:

  • Total licenses available per product.

  • Total usage over time (displayed as charts).

  • Activation status and license keys

When activating a new Tenant Manager license, a confirmation message appears warning that all existing standalone tenants will be deactivated. This is required because all tenants must be managed under the new centralized Tenant Manager organization.

For more details on Subscription, see Subscription Overview.

Manage Tenant Licenses

Each tenant has its own license quota, managed through the Edit License page in Tenant Manager.

The Edit License displays:

  • Summary widgets at the top of the page, showing the number of licenses remaining for each product at the Tenant Manager level (the pool from which you can draw)

  • A table that lists all tenants and their allocated license quotas per products

Filter tenant metrics

You can click the filter icon next to each of the metrics in the table (except for DEX score) to view specific tenants and their product usage.

To fine-tune your results, you can add multiple conditions to the filters.

Important:

The total number of licenses allocated across all tenants must not exceed the Tenant Manager’s overall licensed quota.

Edit tenant licenses

To adjust licenses for a specific tenant:

  1. Click Edit License on the Tenant Manager’s homepage.

  2. Locate the required tenant in the table.

  3. Update the license numbers for each product, ensuring you don’t exceed the Tenant Manager’s available quota.

  4. Click Save.

Reallocate licenses

Tenant Manager enables flexible reallocation of licenses between products and tenants, as long as the total allocations don’t exceed the overall quota.

Reallocate licenses between products (within one tenant)

If a tenant needs more licenses for a product, you can reallocate licenses from one product to another for the same tenant:

  1. Decrease the number of licenses assigned to the source product (e.g., Desktops).

  2. Increase the number of licenses for the target product under the same tenant (e.g., Compliance).

  3. Verify that the total license number remains within the tenant’s quota.

Example:
A tenant has 1,900 Desktops licenses and 1,000 Compliance licenses, but it needs 1,500 for Compliance:

  • Reduce the Desktops allocation by 500 (from 1,900 to 1,400).

  • Increase the Compliance allocation by 500 (from 1,000 to 1,500).

Reallocate licenses between tenants

If one tenant needs additional licenses, but the Tenant Manager quota has reached its limits, you can reassign unused licenses from another tenant:

  1. Identify a tenant with available licenses.

  2. Reduce that tenant’s allocation for the specific product.

  3. Increase the allocation for the required tenant.

Note: For details on Synthetic Monitoring license usage, see Synthetic Monitoring Subscription .

Handle license change issues

If a license change causes allocations to exceed licensed limits, ControlUp displays notifications to ensure the issue is resolved.

  • Admin notification: Indicates that your license has changed and there are allocation conflicts that must be resolved. It prompts you to  adjust allocations, or contact Sales to purchase additional licenses.
The notification states that tenant access may remain blocked until the conflict is resolved.

  • Tenant notification: Indicates that access is blocked due to a license change.
The notification instructs you to contact your administrator for assistance.
