What is ControlUp Dashboards
ControlUp Dashboards is a flexible data visualization feature that helps you monitor and understand your environments by displaying key metrics tailored to your organization’s needs and priorities.
It brings together three types of dashboards — ControlUp dashboards (prebuilt), organizational dashboards (shared across your company), and personal dashboards (that you create and customize).
Using widgets, you track performance, identify trends, and gain actionable insights through clear, data-driven visualizations.
You can:
View or customize ControlUp dashboards: Explore pre-built dashboards designed to give you immediate insights into your environments.
Access organizational dashboards: View dashboards shared by your organization’s admins for team-wide use.
Create your own dashboards: Start fresh, duplicate an existing dashboard and customize it, or use one provided by ControlUp or your organization. Add widgets, arrange layouts, and design views that match your needs.
Build powerful widgets: Use the Widget Builder to pull data from any ControlUp for Desktops data index. Apply aggregations, groupings, filters, and math transformations to shape your data.
Choose your visualization type: Use a stat, gauge, time series, table, donut, or bar chart to display data based on threshold, trends, or comparisons.
Make dashboards interactive with variables: Define variables (such as device name, OS, or application) and use them as filters across multiple widgets. With a single dropdown, you can update the entire dashboard view.
Inspect the data behind every chart: Every widget includes a RAW Data Viewer where you can view the underlying query, copy it into Power BI, Grafana, or Postman, or export results to CSV.
Note: This feature is currently limited to data from ControlUp for Desktops and ControlUp for Applications.
To view the available data, go to Desktops > Configuration menu > Data.
Access and Permissions
Access to Dashboards is currently granted by default only to the Admin role in the DEX platform.
Admins automatically receive all Dashboards permissions, and can assign them to other users or roles.

Important: Only data that you have permission to access in ControlUp for Desktops is displayed in Dashboards.
Dashboards Types

There are three dashboard types:
My Dashboards
Dashboards that you create, import or duplicate. These are visible to you only, unless you share them with your organization.
Dashboards marked as favorites are listed here too.
When an Admin promotes a personal dashboard to an organizational one, it moves to Shared Dashboards.
If the Admin later revokes the access to an organizational dashboard, it reverts to a personal dashboard and returns to the My Dashboards tab of the original creator.
Shared dashboards
Dashboards created or shared by your organization’s Admin for organizational use.
Anyone with the View Dashboards permission can access these.
If you have the Organizational Editor permission, you can promote your own dashboards to shared dashboards by sharing them.
Dashboard Gallery
Out-of-the-box dashboards provided by ControlUp for quick setup.
Anyone with the View Dashboards permission can see these dashboards.
If you have Organizational Editor permission, you can duplicate these dashboards and use them as templates for your own custom dashboards.
Note: ControlUp may update these dashboards periodically. Updates to ControlUp dashboards are not automatically applied to your customized copies.
Any dashboard marked as a favorite, regardless of its source, is displayed in My Dashboards.
For details on managing your dashboards, see Manage Your Dashboards.
Widgets
Dashboards are made up of widgets, which display the data that matters most to you. You can add widgets using ControlUp’s preset widgets, or create your own using the Widget Builder.
Preset widgets
Preset widgets cover common monitoring and visualization use cases, such as:
Average CPU Load: Tracks CPU utilization over time by calculating the average number of processes running or waiting.
Crashed Processes over Time (Top 10): Monitors the Windows event log to visualize the frequency of application or system process crashes.
Devices with Missing Patches: Displays endpoints missing one or more software updates (patches).
Website Connection Errors (ControlUp for Apps): Counts and groups website connection errors over time.
Additional widgets that cover areas such as Wi-Fi signal strength, amount of devices per agent, and more.
Widget capabilities
With widgets, you can:
Select any index from ControlUp for Desktops (custom or built-in)
Choose any metric within an index
Apply aggregations such as Count, Cardinality, Min, Max, Average, Sum or Percentile
Filter by predefined variables
Choose a visualization type (Stat, Gauge, Time Series, Table, Donut, Bar)
Customize visualizations (colors, units, callouts, orientation, and more)
For detailed instructions, see Manage Dashboard Widgets and Widget Builder.
Variables
Variables make dashboards and widgets more dynamic and reusable. They act as filters that can be applied across multiple widgets within the same dashboard.
Up to four variables can be configured for each dashboard.

You can:
Create a variable from any index and metric, with automatically generated unique items
Use variables when applying filters to dashboards and widgets
Change variable values using a drop-down menu
Insert variables into widget names, using the format
{{Variable Name}}.
The Variable Builder automatically retrieves unique values from the chosen metric and presents them in a dropdown menu at the top of your dashboard.
The first 500 results are shown by default, but you can search for more.
When you select a value from the dropdown, all widgets using this variable update automatically to show filtered data.
For more details, see Add Variables and Configured Variables.
