What is ControlUp Dashboards?

ControlUp Dashboards is a flexible data visualization feature that helps you monitor and understand your environments by displaying key metrics tailored to your organization’s needs and priorities.

In Dashboards, you can view prebuilt dashboards provided by ControlUp in the Dashboard Gallery, view your organization’s dashboards in Shared Dashboards, and create your own dashboards in My Dashboards and share them with your organization.

Using widgets, you can track performance, identify trends, and gain actionable insights through clear, data-driven visualizations.

You can:

  • View or customize ControlUp dashboards: Explore prebuilt dashboards designed to give you immediate insights into your environments.

  • Access organizational dashboards: View dashboards shared by your organization’s admins for team-wide use.

  • Create your own dashboards: Start fresh and add widgets, arrange layouts, and design views that match your needs.

  • Customize existing dashboards: Customize and change built-in ControlUp Dashboards from the gallery to better serve your needs, except for read-only dashboards like the Device Health and Rightsize dashboard.

  • Drill down in the data: When displaying a username or device name, the dashboard links it to the correct user or device within ControlUp for Desktops.

  • Use global filters: Use more than 20 filters to filter all widgets in your dashboard. Filters include device name, location, manufacturer, model, username, and more.

When creating your own dashboards, you can:

  • Build powerful widgets: Use the Widget Builder to pull data from ControlUp for Desktops, ControlUp for Apps, and ControlUp for VDI. Apply aggregations, groupings, filters, and transformations to shape your data.

  • Choose your visualization type: Use a stat, gauge, time series, table, donut, bar chart, or grid to display data.

  • Make dashboards interactive with variables: Define variables and use them as filters across multiple widgets. You can also use bar or donut widget selections as variable values to filter other widgets.

  • Inspect the data behind every chart: Every widget includes a RAW Data Viewer where you can view the underlying query, copy it into Power BI, Grafana, or Postman, or export results to CSV.

Access and Permissions

Access to Dashboards is currently granted by default only to the Admin role in the DEX platform.

Admins automatically receive all Dashboards permissions, and can assign them to other users or roles.

  • To view and use VDI data within dashboards, you need the permission for VDI data in Dashboards under the Reports section in Permissions.

  • To view and use Desktops data, you need the permission to view Desktops data. Dashboards adhere to the device groups you have access to.

Within Dashboards, there are three permissions you can set in the Custom Dashboards section of Permissions.

Dashboard Sections

Dashboards Homepage

There are three dashboard sections:

My Dashboards

My Dashboards includes dashboards that you created, imported, duplicated, or marked as favorite. These are visible only to you, unless you share them with your organization.

You can keep a shared dashboard in My Dashboards by marking it as a favorite. To mark a dashboard as a favorite, click the star icon.

When an Admin promotes a personal dashboard to an organizational one, it moves to Shared Dashboards. If the Admin later removes the organizational dashboard from sharing, it reverts to a personal dashboard and returns to the My Dashboards tab of the original creator.

Shared Dashboards

Shared Dashboards contains dashboards shared by an organization Admin for organizational use.

Anyone with the View Dashboards permission can access these dashboards.

If you have the Organizational Editor permission, you can promote your own dashboards to shared dashboards by sharing them, and edit existing shared dashboards.

The Dashboard Gallery contains out-of-the-box dashboards provided by ControlUp for quick setup.

Anyone with the View Dashboards permission can see these dashboards.

If you have edit permission, you can click Customize within a dashboard to duplicate it as a personal dashboard and modify it.

Dashboard Updates

ControlUp may update these dashboards periodically. Updates to ControlUp dashboards are not automatically applied to your customized copies.

Any dashboard marked as a favorite, regardless of its source, is displayed in My Dashboards.
